HOLLYWOOD, CA – MONDAY, September 22, 2014 - Mance Media, a global film and television distribution company based in Hollywood, CA, announced today that it has acquired worldwide rights to "The Young Kieslowski," the audience award-winning comedy that premiered at this year's Los Angeles Film Festival.
Starring Ryan Malgarini (“Freaky Friday”), Haley Lu Richardson (“The Well”) and Joshua Malina (“Scandal”, “The West Wing”) the film tells the hilarious and heart-warming story of two brainy and awkward virgins who hook up (drunkenly), fall in love (maybe), and get pregnant (twins). Suddenly parents-to-be, Brian Kieslowski and Leslie Mallard must heroically battle their own neuroses while trying to figure out what the hell they should do next.
The film has already won praise from critics, with IndieWire's Charlie Schmidlin singling it out as "a welcome and charming teen comedy surprise... a comedy-drama with heart and great performances." Cinephiled called it "one of the most poignant, funny and original films I’ve seen," and Justin Lowe of the Hollywood Reporter highlighted the two young leads, saying "Malgarini and Richardson demonstrate a winning rapport from their opening scenes together."
"Mance Media's enthusiasm for KIESLOWSKI has been palpable since the day we premiered at LAFF," said writer/director Kerem Sanga. "I'm very proud of this film, and I couldn't be more excited to be working with them in bringing it to the world." The film, which was inspired by his own parents' college-aged pregnancy, features an impressive ensemble cast that includes James LeGros (“Point Break”, “Girls”), Melora Walters (“Magnolia”), Osric Chau (“The CW's Supernatural”) and Jessica Lu (“Awkward”).
With plans to release the film theatrically and on all VOD platforms in the first half of 2015, Mance will also present it to international buyers at AFM in November. The release marks an expansion for Mance’s distribution presence and their biggest theatrical bow to date.
“Kieslowski” was produced by Danny Leiner (“Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle”), Seth Caplan (“In Search of a Midnight Kiss"), David Hunter, and Ross Putman. Chris Colbert and Ben Ross executive produced. Shot on location in Los Angeles and Pasadena, the film was mastered in native 4K.
“I saw The Young Kieslowski at its world premiere [LA FILM FEST] and the audience’s reaction said it all. This is a very special film. It serves the millennial and YA audiences perfectly – tackling virginity, teen pregnancy and the aloofness of college undergrads. I very much look forward to working with Kerem and the entire production team on making this a hit next year,” says Mance Media’s CEO, Matthew Mancinelli.
Sanga is represented by Kendrick Tan and Ryan Cunningham at Madhouse. The deal was negotiated by Jay Cohen for Gersh, Will Lowery for APA and Elsa Ramo for Ramo Law, PC on behalf of the filmmakers, and Matthew Mancinelli for Mance Media.
